Gamelan Genta Kasturi Concert & Open Workshop

Gamelan Genta Kasturi will present a musical performance of modern and traditional Balinese Gamelan music, played on the gongs, drums, and metallophones of our orchestra.  Preceding the concert will be a workshop in which participants will learn to play the gongs and metallophones in a family-friendly setting.  Our group creates/performs new work within the medium in collaboration with other musicians and choreographers, and retain classical and modern repertoire taught to us by our founding dir 

Seeds of the Vietnam War

In March 1965, the first U.S. ground troops were committed in Vietnam. By 1969, that number grew to more than a half million troops. The war proved to be one of the most contentious conflicts in U.S. history during which more than 58,000 Americans lost their lives. Join Dr. James H. Willbanks, Professor Emeritus of Military History at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, for a discussion that addresses how the seeds of the war can be traced back to World War I, the interwar years and the period following the surrender of Japan in World War II.

Ernest Melton Duo

Ernest Melton is a saxophonist based in Kansas City. Coming from a jazz and blues background, his sound is a mix of traditional and contemporary that can spread across all musical genres.

Matt Hopper Duo

Guitar student of Danny Embrey, Rod Fleeman and Doug Neidt at The UMKC Conservatory of Music, Matt Hopper is now a  mainstay of the KC jazz scene. His debut album, First Love, is currently being played nationally over 70 radio stations.

Lonnie McFadden Trio

Kansas City entertainment icon, Lonnie McFadden is a unique multi-talented performer who sings, tap dances and plays trumpet. He has traveled the globe performing and representing Kansas City Jazz at major jazz festivals and shows around the world. 

Stan Kessler and Kathleen Holeman Duo

Stan Kessler is a jazz stalwart on the KC scene, leading several working bands. Kathleen Holeman is one of the swinginest singers and pianist on the planet. Together, they make music that is delightful, memorable and entertaining in any setting.

The Mengel Brothers

Chaz draws a loyal flock of regulars Sunday nights to hear a diverse repertoire performed by the Mengel Brothers. Guests appreciate their classical compositions as well as riffs on jazz, pop and rock from artists such as the Beatles and Doors.

Dan Bliss and Rod Fleeman

Rod Fleeman uses acoustic guitar to showcase his love of of ’30s and ’40s jazz, blues and swing. Fingerstyle guitarist and singer Dan Bliss shows his old style guitar talents on tunes by artists such as Nat King Cole and Chuck Berry.

The Hilliard Gallery has hand-picked and paired several local artists to create 2 unique pieces of art per pair in their own individual styles. The first pair will be Jennifer Walker and Lynette Ubel (Oct. 4th). Lynette is an abstract painter & Jennifer a Resin Sculptor who specializes in color and light.
