Local institutions across Kansas City are offering noteworthy ways to spend the holiday. Get ready for a long weekend filled with cultural celebrations, outdoor events and other Kansas City favorites.

Favorite Annual Events

The Kansas City Irish Fest returns to Crown Center, Sept. 4-6. Immerse yourself in the traditions of Ireland with multiple stages of Irish music and dance, menus of traditional Irish and Scottish dining, a vast range of cultural activities and programs that cater to the entire family.

Santa-Cali-Gon Days

In Independence, Santa-Cali-Gon Days returns to Independence Square for a weekend of historically inspired entertainment. Live music, demonstrations of life in 1849, and attractions ranging from a beer garden to a cornhole competition offer a full weekend of festivities, Sept. 4-7.

KC Renaissance Festival

The holiday weekend also brings the opening days of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs. Immerse yourself in medieval lore at the annual celebration, featuring daily jousts, a marketplace, faire food, family-friendly activities and more imaginative entertainment. The festival runs select days Sept. 5 through Oct. 18.

Kauffman Stadium at Sunset

Baseball fans can cheer on the boys in blue during a nine-game homestand at Kauffman Stadium from Sept. 1-9, as the Kansas City Royals take on the Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Opening Labor Day weekend on Sept. 4, GloWild: Hidden Treasure returns to the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium with an all-new adventure featuring illuminated shipwrecks, buried treasure, expedition camps and lush jungle landscapes.
