Overview

Pigskin meets America’s favorite pastime 10 minutes east of downtown at KC’s double-header for professional sports. The Truman Sports Complex is home to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals at the side-by-side Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums.

Follow in the footsteps of the 33rd president in Independence, Missouri, home to 16 heritage sites and the final resting place for Harry S. Truman. Attractions include the Truman Library and Museum, the Truman Home, Victorian mansions, the National Frontier Trails Museum and a vibrant historic square.

In nearby Blue Springs at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, visitors can enjoy family-friendly expeditions, conservation area trails, bird watching and other natural habitat oriented activities. For more outdoor adventures, jump in at Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo for an afternoon of swimming, boating and fishing.

Stop along Troost Avenue to explore an array of savory restaurants to perfectly compliment East KC’s heart. Find American classics with a twist at Urban Restaurant, cold-pressed juices and smoothies at Ruby Jean’s Juicery, massive pizza slices at The Combine, or jollof rice at Fannie’s West African Cuisine. 

Just south of the Truman Sports Complex, LC’s Bar-B-Q is a delicious stop for barbecue before or after Chiefs and Royals games.

Further east in Independence, grab a plate at Dixon’s Famous Chili where President Truman frequently dined or enjoy the cozy patio and a heaping serving of lasagna at V’s Italian Ristorante. Or grab a chef’s special at Sinclair’s Restaurant in Blue Springs or feast on the brunch menu at Third Street Social in Lee’s Summit.
