Join Heartland Conservation Alliance and the Astronomical Society of Kansas City (ASKC) for a free evening outdoors at Alex George Wetland.

Event Details:

  • 7:30 PM – Telescope Setup: Watch the ASKC team build out their telescope setups and ask questions about the gear they use to track the stars.
  • 8:00 PM – Light Pollution Presentation: Head over to the green space for a short talk on how light pollution affects our view of the night sky, local wildlife, and what simple steps help bring back natural darkness.
  • Post Presentation – Telescope Viewing: Look through the scopes with ASKC volunteers pointing out planets, stars, and constellations while answering your questions about what’s overhead.
  • Whether you’re a casual stargazer or bringing the family out for an evening in the park, all ages are welcome.

What to bring:

  • Plenty of water appropriate for your needs and weather conditions. There will be no running water on site.
  • Bug spray
  • Long pants and close toed shoes are highly recommended to protect against bugs.
  • A lawn chair and/or blanket for seating during the presentation.
