Every generation of Kansas Citians has produced individuals who have left an indelible mark upon our city. In our day and age, it would do us good to reflect on the lives of those who came before and gave us a sense of belonging and community identity. They came from all walks of life: bankers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, politicians, civil rights activists, brewmasters, athletes, artists, architects, builders, and an occasional rascal who nevertheless left an imprint on our great city.
Collectively, the life stories of people featured in this book are lessons for the ages. They don’t get any better. Some are funny, some will make you cry. But each will teach you something about the innate goodness of the human spirit.
Bruce Mathews and contributing authors share the remarkable stories of many of them who are buried in the historic Forest Hill Calvary Cemetery at 69th and Troost.
