Intimate Listening
The Blue Room

Located inside the American Jazz Museum in the historic 18th & Vine district, the Blue Room offers an intimate setting rooted in Kansas City’s jazz history.
Named after the original 1930s Street Hotel club, the space connects past and present, allowing visitors to explore the stories of KC’s jazz pioneers before experiencing performances from today’s local and touring artists.
Free programming includes Monday Night Jam Sessions from 7-10:30 p.m., Jazz @ Noon on the first and second Thursdays of each month, and Indigo Hour every Friday at 5 p.m. Evening sets with a cover charge take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Nighthawk

Located inside Hotel Kansas City, Nighthawk offers a modern take on the city’s jazz scene with a stylish, elevated atmosphere.
Each first Wednesday of the month, the space hosts the Nightingales Drag Show from 7 p.m. to midnight. Throughout the rest of the week, catch performances ranging in genre, with jazz regularly part of the rotation, Thursday through Saturday nights.
Follow the gallery wall adorned with posters of Kansas City’s most influential musicians before arriving at the red curtain stage, where a new generation of artists brings fresh energy to the space.
VOO Lounge

No cover is needed for this Downtown speakeasy-style lounge.
Originally opened in 1915 by George Muehlebach as a part of the Hotel Muehlebach, this jazz bar has welcomed notable figures from Harry S. Truman to Truman Capote. (It briefly had the name Haberdashery, after President Truman’s hat shop.)
Today, VOO Lounge blends its legacy with a more modern feel, offering curated craft cocktails and weekend performances on Friday and Saturday nights.
Uptown Lounge
Find live performances at this Midtown piano lounge five days a week, with a special Tuesday Blues Jam anchoring the weekly lineup. The space offers a more modern take on Kansas City’s jazz scene, with seating at the bar or near the stage.
Green Lady Lounge and Black Dolphin

These sister lounges in the Crossroads Arts District offer two takes on a classic Kansas City jazz setting.
Green Lady sets the scene with candlelit tables, chandeliers and deep red walls, delivering an intimate, throwback setting. Performances run late into the night, continuing until 3 a.m. every day.
Just next door, Black Dolphin is a contemporary companion, pairing red and purple lighting with neon accents and a Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule. Both venues feature local musicians and remain staples of Kansas City’s late-night scene.

Dinner and a Show
The Drum Room Lounge

Located inside the historic Hilton President Kansas City, the Drum Room carries a legacy shaped by iconic entertainers, from Frank Sinatra to the Marx Brothers.
Today, the lounge combines that history with a comfortable, classic setting, offering a lineup of seasonal cocktails and elevated menu items, including locally loved treats like Betty Rae’s Ice Cream.
Open daily, the space is especially lively on Friday nights, when live performances take the stage.
Lonnie’s Reno Club
A swanky supper club right in the heart of Downtown Kansas City, Lonnie’s Reno Club hosts live shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The intimate venue combines live entertainment with a menu of Midwest favorites, indulgent desserts and a full lineup of cocktails.
Ted’s Taproom
The newest jazz club in the Crossroads features live music Tuesday through Saturday, plus vinyl nights on Sundays. The modern venue completes its relaxed atmosphere with cocktails and a menu of flatbreads, bruschetta, dips and other shareable plates.
The Phoenix
Set inside the former Phoenix Hotel, this longtime jazz and piano bar blends Kansas City history with a lively, welcoming atmosphere.
Originally opened as the Valerius Saloon before Prohibition, the space now hosts a wide range of artists, including familiar local performers who have been part of the rotation for decades.
Visit Tuesday through Sunday for a mix of rotating sets, a full menu of classic dishes and a setting that invites guests to engage with the experience by requesting songs and settling into the rhythm of the neighborhood. The Sunday Jazz Brunch is a standout, pairing live sets with breakfast favorites and mimosa pitchers.
The Majestic Restaurant

Step downstairs to the bottom floor of The Historic Fitzpatrick Saloon Building where a history of jazz and prohibition fill the air.
The main floor operates as a classic steakhouse, while the cellar transforms into an intimate speakeasy with live jazz five nights a week. Catch favorite local acts alongside touring artists from around the world, or reserve a table for a full stage-side dining experience.
