Everything You Need to Know About the Fourth of July in Kansas City

Pack a blanket and gather at the National WWI Museum and Memorial on July 4 for the Stars and Stripes Picnic. This year, there are two ways to celebrate Kansas City’s official Independence Day celebration.

For a free-to-attend, relaxed picnic experience with a hillside view of the evening fireworks head to Penn Valley Park. Or, register for free to attend the FIFA Fan Festival™ and enjoy World Cup watch parties before catching the fireworks show from the museum lawn.

In Overland Park, settle in for a show on the Fourth of July during the Star Spangled Spectacular at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park, which features food trucks and local performers in addition to a brilliant fireworks show. Concerts begin at 5 p.m., with the fireworks show slated to begin at approximately 10 p.m.

For another Sunflower State show, head to Olathe for the city’s Fourth of July fireworks display.

On July 4, enjoy an all-day Fourth of July celebration in Parkville, featuring a pancake breakfast, a skydiving exhibition, parade and more festivities before the evening’s fireworks show.

A special encounter with Americana arrives at Starlight on July 4. Legendary artist Bob Dylan will take the stage for a show Independence Day, followed by a free fireworks display after the concert concludes.

Catch the Kansas City Royals take the field for a three-game series July 4-6 that includes fireworks on July 4 at Kauffman Stadium. With limited parking at the Truman Sports Complex during the World Cup, ConnectKC26 offers shuttles from Fan Fest to each Royals home game.

If you’re looking for an athletic outing of your own, the Lenexa Freedom Run and Ward Parkway Four on the Fourth offer runners and walkers a chance to start Independence Day off with a bang.

On July 3, celebrate the father of Kansas City barbecue and the legacy he built in the region. Inside Crown Center, the Museum of BBQ will feature free admission and stories told by HenryPerry’s granddaughter, Bernetta McKindra.

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum is commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary with Red White & TRU, a free and family-friendly celebration. The full-day event features live music from an authentic cowboy band, living history activities and much more.
