Lexington is a quaint and charming Missouri River town that makes a great day trip and group destination for shopping, history and sightseeing, and is located just an hour east of downtown Kansas City. The city is the home of the famous “cannonball in the courthouse column,” a relic of the 1861 Civil War Battle of Lexington, as well as a State Historic Site and museum with guided tours of the 1853 restored plantation house used as a field hospital during the battle. Lexington has more than 100 antebellum homes and buildings and was named one of the Midwest’s “Best Old House Neighborhoods” in 2012 by This Old House Magazine. Main Street features specialty stores and restaurants, many in restored buildings. Visit the mobile ready website for downloadable walking and driving tours, points of interest maps, as well as detailed information on what to do, must see locations, and where to eat and shop during your visit.
