Group Volunteer Opportunities in Kansas City

Looking for a host destination where your event can leave an impact?

Kansas City is home to many charities and nonprofit organizations that help groups incorporate corporate social responsibility into their meeting programs. From volunteer opportunities to meaningful donations, attendees can support local causes while making a difference.

See a few recent examples and find a worthwhile organization to serve as your local partner.

Restoring Community Spaces

During a break in its meeting program, SkillsUSA painted and restored picnic tables at the historic Alexandor Majors House, helped with a Habitat for Humanity project in one neighborhood and formed community clean-up crews in another. The group also donated building materials and supplies from their exhibits to local refurbishment projects.

Mentoring Youth and Promoting Health

The national Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brought more than 80 young attendees to the J & D Wagner Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City to conduct a full day of youth mentoring. The group also hosted a community health fair during its conference.

Supporting Vital Blood Donations

The American Academy of Family Physicians hosted a blood drive with Community Blood Center (CBC) during their FUTURE Conference. The CBC is one of the largest community-based, non-profit blood collection and distribution organizations in the nation.

Sharing the Love of Reading

Event Service Professionals Association partnered with Lead to Read, a program founded to advance children’s reading skills, to collect classic children’s books and donate them back into the program.

Serving Kansas City's Homeless

Mennonite Church USA provided personnel to assist at Shelter KC to sort and organize clothing, hygiene products and other essential donations. Since 1950, Shelter KC’s mission has been to offer freedom, support and resources to those in need while empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

Investing in History and Education

The National Afro-American Corvette Club made a monetary donation to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and donated backpacks and school supplies across local neighborhoods.

More Volunteer Opportunities

  • Operation Breakthrough: With a mission to help impoverished children and families succeed and improve personal potential, groups can adopt a classroom or neighborhood, sponsor a donation or collection drive, assist in creating take-home activities for children and more.
  • Happy Bottoms: Support local families by hosting a convenient on-site service project, where volunteers prepare and package diapers for distribution.
  • Harvesters: Host a collection drive or gather up to 200 of your closest coworkers to sort food and donated goods, helping in the mission to fight food insecurity in Kansas City.
  • Heart to Heart International: Groups can make a difference by assembling hygiene kits for those affected by natural disasters and under-resourced communities in the metro area.
  • Amethyst Place: Attendees can volunteer to assemble furniture, paint and decorate apartments, and assist with child tutoring and mentoring.
  • Christmas in October: Improve the homes and lives of low-income, elderly, disabled and Veteran homeowners by raising money for construction materials for home refurbishment. For a hands-on opportunity, assist in refurbishment of a home or yard.
