On the heels of the Friday night presentation, Kansas City Veterans Write: The Importance of Holding Space with Luke Rolfes, writer Virginia Brackett assists Rolfes in leading a writing workshop open to veterans, families of veterans, and their allies interested in telling stories about those who have served.
The two guide writers and poets of all skill levels through exercises to help them put their varied experiences and thoughts into words they can share with others or keep to themselves.
Rolfes is an assistant professor at Northwest Missouri State University, coeditor of GreenTower Press, editor of the veteran anthology Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors in collaboration with Missouri Humanities, and author of Sleep Lake, Impossible Naked Life, and Flyover Country.
Brackett is the author of dozens of articles and 15 books, including In the Company of Patriots, a memoir about her father’s death in the Korean conflict.
Registration is required for the workshop and lunch will be provided. This event is presented in partnership with the Veterans’ Voices Writing Project.
