Accompanied by chamber orchestra and pipe organ, the Grammy-winning Kansas City Chorale presents Tender Light—an evening of choral masterworks that reflect on memory, love, and the journey of life.
The program honors the 30th anniversary of the Chorale’s recording of Fern Hill, a radiant setting of Dylan Thomas’s poetry by Grammy-, Oscar-, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Corigliano. This lush work captures the golden glow of childhood with warmth and nostalgia. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s passing, the Chorale offers his beloved Rejoice in the Lamb—an exuberant, mystical celebration of creation set to the visionary words of poet Christopher Smart.
The program also includes Five Hebrew Love Songs by Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre, written in collaboration with his Grammy-winning partner Hila Plitmann. These intimate miniatures express moments of tenderness and quiet beauty. Rounding out the evening is Ola Gjeilo’s Dark Night of the Soul, a luminous, soaring meditation on longing, transformation, and transcendence.
