This Midwest city is wild for the Midwest Princess!

Chappell Roan tapped Kansas City as one of just three cities for her 2025 pop-up concert series, saying she loved Kansas City and wanted to do something special. But why is KC so close to the popstar’s heart?

As a Missouri native, Roan’s hometown is about two-and-a-half hours south of Kansas City. As a child, she saw her first concert in KC, and years later, she went to her first drag show at KC’s Hamburger Mary’s.

An LGBTQ-Friendly Weekend in Kansas City

It was an inspiring moment for Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh. She’s said Chappell Roan is her drag alter ego when she’s on stage, and local drag artists open for her at every concert.

But if you can’t catch her on stage, there are still plenty of Kansas City sites where fans can connect with the Grammy Award-winning singer. With some help from the Chappell Roan Fandemonium official fan club, here’s a Midwest Princess-inspired guide to Kansas City.

Where to Eat

Recharge to start your morning. Chappell Roan’s KC guide recommends three local coffee shops: women-owned Cafe Corazon in the Crossroads Art District and Cafe Ca Phe in Columbus Park, as well as LGBTQ-owned Anchor Island Coffee.

No Chappell Roan fan itinerary would be complete without a trip to Hamburger Mary’s, where the classic diner menu combines with dazzling entertainment. Drag shows, brunch and bingo are regulars on the calendar at this Midtown favorite.

Explore Kansas City’s Gay Bars and Clubs

Chappell Roan has also shared that one of her favorite treats is Andy’s Frozen Custard. She even featured the Missouri-based chain in her “Hot to Go!” music video. Good news for fans: Andy’s has over a dozen locations throughout the Kansas City area. Grab Roan’s favorite order, the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer, filled with peanut butter, brownies and hot fudge.

Kansas City is also home to many other LGBTQ- and women-owned restaurants. Enjoy northern Mediterranean cuisine and a vast wine menu at Enzo Bistro & Bar in KC’s River Market neighborhood or try seasonal, from-scratch dishes while listening to live music at Cafe Trionear the Country Club Plaza. Then grab a craft cocktail in The Vault speakeasy at Tom’s Town Distilling Co. in the Crossroads Arts District.

Where to Shop

Kansas Citians love to show their passion for their city and their favorite stars. Chappell Roan is no exception.

Local businesses like Fetchand Shop Local KC are known for tapping into the pop culture trends with their array of gifts, apparel, accessories, paper goods and more. Grab Pink Pony Club earrings or a Chappell Roan prayer candle as you browse other KC merch.

Find more pieces for your Pink Pony Club or Super Graphic Ultra Modern-themed outfit at one of Kansas City’s many vintage clothing shops like Daisy Lee Vintage in the Crossroads Arts District.

Where to Go

Don’t miss the new Chappell Roan mural on the building next to Hamburger Mary’s on Broadway Boulevard. Two local artists teamed up to create the massive piece before Roan’s 2025 pop-up shows.

At MOC BOD, the LGBTQ community and its allies can find a one-stop shop for building community, inclusive shopping and even receiving personal care services in a safe space.

After a full day of exploring, Kansas City’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene is the perfect way to wrap up the day.

Chappell Roan’s KC guide recommends Missie B’s on West 39th Street and the new Q Kansas City in Westport for drag shows, dance floors and drinks. Locals also love Woody’s KC in Midtown where guests will find a full calendar of events and a popular patio with a photo-friendly set of pride stairs.
