Westport District Hosts Community Canned Food Drive “Battle for the Heart of Westport” to Support Bishop Sullivan Center

Kansas City, MO — Businesses in Westport are coming together to fight food insecurity in Kansas City with a community-wide canned food drive to benefit Bishop Sullivan Center, one of the city’s leading organizations providing food and emergency assistance to neighbors in need.

Throughout July, Westport businesses, restaurants, and retailers will serve as drop-off locations for non-perishable food donations. Community members are encouraged to participate by bringing canned goods and pantry staples to any participating location throughout the drive. Each participating Westport business will offer special discounts for donations.

  • Beer Kitchen – 10% off when you donate 10 cans 
  • Frost Frozen Bar – 10% off when you donate 10 cans
  • HAIR – 10% off retail any time someone donates 
  • Harry’s Bar & Tables – bring in 10 cans during happy hour to receive a complimentary happy hour appetizer  
  • Innate Family Chiropractic – new patient exam special – 50% off when you donate 10 cans. (must schedule ahead of time) 
  • Kelly’s Westport Inn – bring in 5 cans and get $5 off any hat. (one per person) 
  • Providence by the Slice – free slice for 10 cans donated 

The Westport business that collects the most donations throughout the month of July will win the “Battle for the Heart of Westport” trophy!

“The amazing management team at Beer Kitchen came to me with the idea of doing this canned food drive as a contest between businesses and we loved the idea,” said Tia Simpson, Westport Special Events Manager. “Westport has a strong sense of community and partnering with Bishop Sullivan Center allows us to come together to use that sense of community to support Bishop Sullivan Center and Kansas City families who are struggling with food insecurity, especially during the summer months when need is high.”

All donations will go directly to Bishop Sullivan Center’s food pantries, which serve hundreds of Kansas City residents each week with dignity and compassion.
