Few things say summer quite like a sunny Saturday morning at the farmers market.

They’re more than a place to shop. Farmers markets have become important gathering places for residents and visitors to connect and to support local growers and small businesses.

And recently, several KC-area farmers markets have invested in new spaces to make shopping local more convenient, welcoming and community-focused. Here are three projects that are sure to impress.

Overland Park

The popular Overland Park Farmers Market has moved to its new home. This summer, the city celebrated the grand opening of the renovated Clock Tower Landing, which includes a new farmers market pavilion, permanent shade structures, expanded restrooms and additional seating.

With approximately 100 vendors, visitors are sure to find plenty of fresh produce, local foods and unique specialty items. 

  • When: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from April to September; 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from October to November; 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from June to early September

Lee’s Summit

You can now find the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market at the city’s new Green Street Market building, which opened in mid-2025. The $44 million project includes the multi-use building, a covered lawn, plaground, public art and more.

The market features over 70 vendors offering fresh produce, baked goods and more, plus food trucks and live entertainment on Saturdays.

Parkville

Parkville’s farmers market pavilion welcomed a major upgrade in 2025. The new venue features expanded vendor space, improved accessibility and parking updates.

Now, Parkville Farmers Market visitors can grab local produce and other goods at scenic English Landing Park, just steps from the Missouri River.

  • When: 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays from late April through October; noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays from June through early September

City Market

Kansas City’s largest farmers market operates every weekend year-round, featuring dozens of vendors. Find produce, fresh breads, flowers, crafts and more from across the region.

While you’re at the farmers market, visit some of the local shops and restaurants open daily at the City Market.

  • When: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, April through October; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends, November to December and March; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday only in January and February

Independence

The Independence Farmers’ Market has a wide selection of locally grown meat and produce, sweets and treats, and handmade crafts, all of which have been grown or made within a 100-mile radius of Independence. 

  • When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from May to October; 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from June to August
  • Where: Independence Uptown Market, 211 W. Truman Road, Independence

The Independence Farmers Market also has an indoor market on the first Saturday of the month from December to April.

Kansas City, Kansas

Stock up on local produce, fresh baked goods, homemade items and more at the KCK Farmers Market located in downtown KCK.

The historic Downtown Liberty square is the perfect place to spend a morning shopping for local goods, fresh produce, flowers and more. Plus everything is made or grown within 200 miles of Liberty. The Liberty Farmers Market was recently voted the best of the Northland.

Olathe

Olathe has not just one but two farmers market locations running twice a week. Find a variety of produce, baked goods, flowers and plants, and more.

  • When: 7:30 a.m. to sellout Saturdays from late April through October and Wednesdays from May through September
  • Where: Downtown Olathe at 219 W. Loula St. and Black Bob Park at 14500 W. 151st St.
