From expanded events taking place on a weekly basis to returning favorites that highlight local cultural staples, there’s an endless lineup of ways to gather and celebrate in Kansas City this summer.
Here’s where to enjoy the season’s sunny days and embrace the lively atmosphere that defines the Heart of America.
Crossroads Nights Market

The Crossroads Arts District is the epicenter of one of Kansas City’s most popular monthly festivities. Now, the neighborhood is cultivating all the energy of its First Fridays celebrations on a weekly basis this summer.
The Crossroads Arts District Night Market features pop-up food vendors, galleries on display and more ways to explore the vibrant neighborhood, reaching across five full weekends in June and July.
Here’s what to expect at the expanded market:
Dates:
June 12-14, 19-21, 26-28
July 3-5, 10-12
Hours:
5 to 11 p.m. every Friday
Noon to 11 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday
Vendors will be gathered in four primary areas across the district, including:
- Alleys along 18th and 19th Streets between Wyandotte Street and Baltimore Avenue
- Baltimore Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets
- The MADE MOBB parking lot at 221 Southwest Blvd.
- Art Alley in the East Crossroads, accessible along East 18th Street between Locust and Cherry Streets
Still not sure where to start? It’s always a safe bet to begin at 19th & Baltimore, near Café Corazón and Up-Down, then continue the exploration from there. Plus, it’s easy to arrive via the free KC Streetcar, with the Crossroads stop just a block away at 19th & Main.
Once you’ve begun, you’ll find an extensive selection of local artists and vendors curated in collaboration with Art Garden KC, along with pop-up food and drink choices. Live music and street performers can be encountered throughout the neighborhood, and some of the city’s finest galleries along Southwest Boulevard (and beyond) are opening their doors with extended hours.
For 15 days across June and July, the Crossroads Arts District Night Market offers the chance for visitors from near and far to experience the creativity at the heart of Kansas City. There’s certain to be something new to encounter every weekend. Plus, it’s all just moments away from Kansas City’s Official FIFA Fan Festival™ taking place at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
First Friday Weekends
One of Kansas City’s most distinctive districts springs to life on the first weekend of each month. First Friday Weekends in the West Bottoms can’t be missed by those in search of a memorable shopping journey, with repurposed brick buildings opening their doors as multistory vintage and antique stores.
First Friday Weekends also fill the streets of the historic stockyards neighborhood with live music and food vendors. They’re joined by a lineup of cocktail bars, coffee shops, restaurants and retailers with permanent locations in the West Bottoms, offering plenty of reasons to stay longer and return soon.
While First Friday Weekends take place all throughout the year, the summer’s themed events feature Boots in the Bottoms from June 5 to 7 and Red, White & Boom in the Bottoms from July 3 to 5.
Third Friday Art Walks

Creative displays flood the streets of Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas, during the area’s Third Friday Art Walks.
The event delivers new installations every month, from aerial acrobatics to hands-on demonstrations. Plus, coffee shops, restaurants and retailers along the way join the monthly celebration, hosting pop-up activities and special deals.
It’s free to attend and takes place each month from May to October. In 2026, the dates are May 15, June 19, July 17, August 21, September 18 and October 16.
Wondering where to begin? Get started near EPIC Arts Clay Studio, pick up a map and navigate your way through the open-air galleries and special exhibitions waiting to be discovered along 6th Street.
Farmers Markets
The area’s largest farmers market arrives in the City Market each weekend, convening dozens of producers in one of the region’s most historic neighborhoods. From fresh jams and honey to small-batch snacks, the rows of vendors offer something for everyone—and don’t forget to pick up a brilliant bouquet of flowers before you depart.
During the summer months, the market operates from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday.
At the south end of the downtown area, the Brookside Farmers Market showcases a lineup of nearby farmers and makers. They’re all located within 125 miles of KC.
The Brookside Farmers Market operates from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October.

Holidays & Cultural Events

Juneteenth commemorates slavery’s formal end in the United States. On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Texas to inform the country’s remaining enslaved people of their freedom. Today, Black Americans celebrate their historical liberation and communities recognize the nation’s long path toward progress.
The largest Juneteenth events in KC take place each year in the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District. 18th & Vine has seen generations of Black leadership in KC, from its place housing one of the country’s first unions for Black musicians at Local 627 (now operating as the Mutual Musicians Foundation) to the establishment of Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery, Vine Street Brewing. This year, the neighborhood welcomes the JuneteenthKC Cultural Parade on June 6 and the JuneteenthKC Heritage Festival on June 19 and 20.
More festivities and educational opportunities are available during the free Juneteenth Celebration at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Held in partnership with JuneteenthKC, the event takes place on June 13.
The city’s largest annual Fourth of July celebration takes place at the National WWI Museum and Memorial each year with the Stars & Stripes Picnic. In 2026, the event has a new look, with the institution’s grounds hosting Kansas City’s Official FIFA Fan Festival™ throughout the holiday weekend.
The weekend’s theme is Home Team: An American Celebration, taking place from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5. It’s free to attend the FIFA Fan Festival™ in Kansas City, but advance registration is required and daily capacity is limited.
Kansas City’s Lawn Party

One of the community’s finest art institutions hoses a citywide picnic every summer. This year, Kansas City’s Lawn Party returns to the lawn of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 19.
The afternoon features live music, food trucks and plenty of lawn games throughout the museum’s treasured Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. It’s free to attend—just bring a blanket and some good company.
