J. Rieger & Co. is Kansas City’s original distillery. As the world’s game arrives in the heart of the country, it’s an essential part of the region’s past and present.

Founded in 1887, J. Rieger & Co. was the nation’s largest mail-order distillery in the pre-Prohibition era. The operation was forced to close its doors in 1919 as the sale of alcohol was outlawed across America. Then, the company was finally revived in 2014 by Andy Rieger, the great-great-great grandson of the distillery’s original founder.

Today, Rieger’s fine products (including Kansas City whiskey, caffè amaro, gin and more) can be sampled in an entirely unique setting. The modern distillery features four distinct bar spaces, inviting guests to choose their preferred experience or stay for another round in a new location.

Choose between the sprawling Monogram Lounge overlooking the production floor, the sunny Tasting Room & Atrium, a sleek outdoor space at Electric Park Garden Bar, and The Hey! Hey! Club—an underground cocktail bar that features regular live entertainment and an upscale atmosphere.

Tours, tastings and a historical exhibit offer more ways to explore the story of J. Rieger & Co. and sample Kansas City’s finest drinks. It’s an unforgettable way to encounter America’s Prohibition history and contemporary Midwestern hospitality.
