Independence Day

Experience how Missourians celebrated our nation's independence in the 19th century. Patriotic speeches, children’s games, period cooking and dancing are just a few of the many interpretive activities you’ll find as you explore the mid-19th century village. All are invited to join in the traditional Missouri Town Independence Day Parade at 12:00 noon.
48th Annual Fall Festival of Arts, Crafts & Music

Explore the sights and sounds of the harvest season at this two-day festival, October 5 & 6. Historic interpreters, artisans, musicians, and crafters will bring to life the hard work and celebration that took place as the crops came in. Walk through our heirloom garden on one of our garden tours to see how fruits and vegetables have changed over time. You will learn how the soldiers and civilians of Fort Osage preserved food for the long winter and take home recipe cards for some of our favorite historic foods.

Explore more than 75 booths featuring everything from pet photos and pet supplies to pet sitters and rescue. Take part in contests like Best Trick, Best Kisser, Best Tail-wagger, Best Biscuit Eater, Dog/Owner Look-alikes, and the always-popular Halloween Costume Contest! Candlelight Tour of Fort Osage

Experience how the holidays were celebrated at the historic Fort in the early 19th century. Authentically attired interpreters lead guests through this unique evening event inspired by the winters at Fort Osage. Guests will travel back in time to listen to the issues of the day presented by those who once called Fort Osage home. The Education Center will offer a warm place to take part in holiday-themed activities and seasonal beverages! Advance reservations are recommended as tickets are limited. The first tour will begin at 5:00 pm, with tours continuing every 20 minutes until 9:00 pm.
