Kids can kick off their Summer Reading and practice their skills with the very best audience... our chickens!
 
Visit the fine feathered friends at Shawnee Town 1929 Museum FREE on Wednesdays in June and July, where kids can pull up a chair and show off their reading skills to our help entertain our flock. They absolutely love meeting your kids! We even have a selection of farm-themed books to read. Just drop in during the museum’s open hours and read a story or two to our chickens – they can’t wait!
 


Ice Cream Social

Event

Celebrate the end of summer 1920s–style... with blues music and ice cream! Jam with us in the historic town square as we cool down with classic ice cream and a full toppings bar while blues musician John Paul Drum heats up the town from the bandstand! Town and farmstead buildings will be open especially for the evening. Admission is $5.00 per person. https://johnpauldrum.rocks/
 
In the case of inclement weather, event will move indoors to Town Hall.

Dog Days of Summer

Event


Every dog needs their day and yours is no exception! Bring your leashed pup to Shawnee Town on Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm for a fun adventure in the historic 1920s downtown. Enjoy dog–friendly vendors and community services, food trucks, splash pools, music, contests, and raffle prizes, PLUS you don’t miss the Kansas City Disc Dogs demonstration! Our Dog Contest categories include Best Dressed, Waggiest Tail, Sweetest Smile, Best Bad Hair Day, Biggest Bark, Most Talented Trickster, Smallest Dog, Largest Dog, Longest Tongue, and Twinning Couple.


Backyard Chickens 101

Are you interested in starting your own coop? Join expert and author Vonnie Fisher at the historic 1920s chicken coop of Shawnee Town to discuss the basics of chicken behavior, feeding, coop needs, chicken health, and so much more! Participants will also be provided with information regarding the City of Shawnee’s backyard chicken ordinances.


Yappy Hour!

Event

Shawnee Town is turning into an Off–Leash Dog Park for the evening! Dog owners and dog lovers join us for a fun happy hour playing in our 1920s downtown square. Join us Wednesday, October 2 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm when your $5.00 admission includes access to the museum grounds, splash pools, and acoustic music in the Town Square. Doggos are free, and Transport Brewing will have beverages for purchase!
 


Homeschool Day

Event

Homeschool families are invited to join us for an interactive educational program at our historic truck farm and recreated Shawnee Downtown! Families will self–guide through the activity stations, including favorites like farmstead laundry and grocery shopping along with BONUS activities including Mad Science demo, farm animal petting zoo, and more! PLUS Kids can also pick up a scavenger hunt for added fun.
 


Movie Night at the Aztec Shawnee Theater: The Werewolf of London & The Wolfman

Historical Hauntings

Historical Hauntings is a real scream! Slither by Shawnee Town Museum on Saturday, October 26 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm for a family–friendly evening of trick–or–treating, tractor hayrides, Farmstead house tours, photo ops, and costume contests with five separate categories and prizes!
 


That's the Spirit! A Pre-Prohibition Era Talk & Tasting with West Bottoms Whiskey Co

Join us for a very “spirited” night of talking and tasting Kansas City history!
 
When master distiller Alex Lindsey founded the West Bottoms Whiskey Co. in 2021, he embraced the West Bottoms’ legacy of industrialization and entrepreneurism by bringing a whiskey spirit and culture back to the area. He aims to ignite a passion for innovating whiskeys through the appreciation and embodiment of a truly optimistic era in the United States.
 


Stuffy Sleepover at Shawnee Town!

Drop them off your favorite toy at Shawnee Town 1929 Museum for a Stuffie Sleepover! While you are snoozing away at home, your stuffed animal travels around our 1920s town. Follow along their adventures on our Facebook and Instagram Stories, and pick them up the next day with a special photo souvenir!
 
Sleepover admission is $5.00. One stuffie/toy allowed per child. Drop off at the Shawnee Town 1929 Visitor Center by Thursday, at 5:00 pm and pick up Friday after 10:00 am. Pre–registration is requested, please call (913) 248–2360.
