#InstaKC Captures: Art Alley

September 19, 2016

#InstaKC Captures is a new blog series that highlights some of the most photogenic sights in Kansas City. From iconic monuments to lesser known gems, we tour the city in search of some of the best places to take a snapshot.

This week, we visit Art Alley in the East Crossroads Arts District, home to some of the most colorful, expressive canvasses in the city.

Art Alley

Eclectic and unexpected, this hidden gem in the East Crossroads Arts District is home to an ever-changing array of top-notch graffiti art. Despite being tucked away, Art Alley isn't far off the beaten path, and once you've grabbed your shots, you can head to either Double Shift Brewing CompanyBorder Brewing Company, Torn Label Brewing Co. and Brewery Emperial. Regardless of the surface, artists bend and twist the urban canvas to fit their vision, making for a truly photogenic site totally beholden to the culture of Kansas City.

Pop (Art) Culture

Graffiti can range anywhere from publicly funded and commisioned murals to striking statements of political activism. In some cases, as can be found in Art Alley, pop culture is a heavy influence in street art design.

Colors and Angles

With so many different pieces stacked and interwoven on top of one another, the possibilities for incredible #InstaKC shots are near endless. Plus, you're bound to look a little cooler if you pose in a picture yourself.
