Before the orchestra, before the symphony, three voices were already in conversation — violin, cello, and harpsichord — discovering what music could be.
During this special Mother’s Day concert, the Kansas City Baroque Consortium explores the origins of the Baroque sonata through iconic works by Italian composers Giovanni Paolo Cima, Francesco Maria Veracini, and Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni.
The ensemble, performing on centuries-old instruments, will journey from Cima’s bold early experiments to Veracini’s expressive fire and Albinoni’s elegant mastery. The performance and music aim to be intimate, inventive, and alive with discovery.
KC Baroque launched in 2009 and holds the distinction of being the only Kansas City-based performing instrumental ensemble specializing in period performance, playing instruments dating from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
