Calls From Home: Artistic Responses on Unsettled Ground explores themes of nature, identity, memory, and community through a mix of traditional and experimental art.
The exhibition features 10 Kansas City artists, including Corey Antis, Joe Bussell, Cyrus Console-Şoican, Paula Console-Șoican, Diana Heise, Amy Kligman, Misha Kligman, Lisa Maione, Fred Trease, and Davin Watne.
At the reception, visitors can view the artwork and talk with the artists about how they create their paintings, drawings, photographs, digital art, and poems.
UMKC students in an upper-level museum studies class curated, organized, and installed the exhibition with support from Izabel Galliera, associate professor of Art History, and Craig Auge, the Library’s exhibitions coordinator.
This event marks both the opening of the exhibition, which runs through June 14, and the final component of the UMKC class.
Exhibitions are supported in part by generous donations from The Estelle S. and Robert A. Long Foundation and the Missouri Arts Council.
