Lyric Opera of Kansas City is one of the nation’s premier regional opera companies, and is celebrating its 52nd season having performed 102 different productions (30 of which are American operas and three of which are world premieres). The current season consists of four operas performed in September, November, March and April in the Lyric Theatre.
Lyric Opera produces an eclectic repertoire, and offers one production of an American or contemporary opera most seasons. In the fall of 1998, the Company began performing operas in the original language, a tradition which continues today with all operas being performed in the original language with English subtitles.
The 52nd season of the Lyric Opera includes Puccini’s “Tosca”, Sept. 11-19; Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore”, Nov. 6-14; Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, March 20-28, 2010; and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, April 24 – May 2, 2010. For tickets, call 816-471-7344 or visit www.kcopera.org.
