Welcome to Hotel Phillips! Kansas City may be best known for BBQ and jazz, but once you stay with us, you’ll add Hotel Phillips to that list too. Even before this address was transformed into an elegant boutique hotel, it had a place in Kansas City's heart. When completed in 1931 (for an astronomical $1.6 million), the 20-story, 450-room hotel was the tallest in Kansas City, and the only commercial structure with a radio receiver in every room. In the Glennon Hotel, which stood in the original site of Hotel Phillips, a famous gentleman ran the haberdashery on the ground floor—Harry S. Truman, who would go on to serve as the 33rd President of the United States. Many of the Art Deco details from the 1930s remain today: the elaborate bronze and nickel metalwork, lustrous walnut paneling, stylish light fixtures and brass mail chute that climbs through all 20 stories of the hotel Back then as it is now, gazing over the lobby is a gilded 11-foot likeness of the goddess of Dawn, known as the light of hospitality and the mother of the stars. Plenty of stars have certainly glided past the gleaming marble walls over the decades, from John Barrymore through current-day celebrities such as LeBron James, Paul McCartney, and Gwen Stefani. In 1979 Hotel Phillips was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. In 2016, the new owners, NVN Hotels and Arbor Lodging Partners completed a $20 million gut renovation that included every aspect of the building to bring the hotel back to its original 1930’s elegance while elevating the food and beverage experiences, comfort, amenities, and modern details There are now 216 spacious guest rooms including a 1-bedroom suite, each smartly appointed with high-tech touches and modern finishes with a 1930’s feel.” Below is information about Hotel Phillips.
