Jonathan Bender of Recommended Daily highlights the upcoming CRAFT festival that highlights Kansas City's local makers, creatives, and talents.

Kansas City is having a moment. There is an energy and drive in this Midwest city that is not just resonating locally, but starting to be felt on both coasts as well. In an effort to capture that spirit, the Recommended Daily and Chick Events are throwing CRAFT – a two-day pop-up festival at Crown Center Plaza on October 3 and 4 -- that shines a light on the passionate folks working to create handcrafted goods, spirits, wine and food.

We want to put festivalgoers right in the heart of all that’s happening. On the first level of the outdoor event, you can find 85 local makers: leather goods from Sandlot Goods and Donole, prints from Indie Olive and Survival Letterpress, as well as the heart KC t-shirt from Charlie Hustle. And while you’re shopping, you can sip on the newest limited edition flavor from Shatto Milk (which will be debuting at CRAFT) or have a an ice cream float with a scoop and Little Freshie’s root beer.

The second level of CRAFT is where we really combine different emerging elements of the Kansas City scene. Under the ice rink, you’ll find a slate of eight homegrown musical acts (The Blackbird Revue, La Guerre, and Rev Gusto among them) and the artisan food pavilion with 16 food vendors. Stock up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with everything from Frannie Franks’ coffee cakes to smoked nuts from Savory Addictions to cheese from Green Dirt Farm.

You can also Meet the Distiller with a tasting and seminar from Dark Horse Distillery or learn about how wine is made with our Grape to Glass seminar from Amigoni Urban Winery. Finally, relax in our Cookies & Beer garden, where you can find unique pairings from the Boulevard Brewing Company and Dolce Bakery.
