Gates Bar-b-que

  • "The large beef sandwich is always thinly sliced, tender, slow-smoked and the same everytime. Very little sauce needed. The mutton breast and ribs are great also but the beef has been my favorite for over 40 years. They have a large variety of sauces although I usually I get the regular or spicy. The service is very fast and friendly. You may eat in comfortable surroundings."

  • "Gates is a legend. We stock up on Gates Bar-B-Q sauce whenever we visit Kansas City from hot to mild for family and friends as well as ourselves. The staff is friendly and helpful with everything on the menu. "

  • "Brio's has wonderful Italian food with more than just the ordinary items. The two-story restaurant with an outdoor seating, and a phenomenal bar upstairs are just the beginning of what makes this one of the best places to relax in KC. The bar area upstairs features lots of comfortable seating areas with the perfect lighting. Their martinis are amazing, and the appetizers are absulutely delicious. Take advantage of the happy hours, and don't miss the acoustic guitar music on Thursday and Sunday evenings....just amazing. This is a great place for friends to gather, first dates, or couples to enjoy a fun and relaxing evening together"

Margarita's for Mexican!

  • "I live in the suburbs of Chicago and have family down in Kansas City. It's like my home away from home and as I drive in to town, I often drive straight to Margarita's for some quality mexican food. I find myself craving the margarita dip, often just ordering that and eating it with their fresh chips. However chips are salty and require a beverage, so why not get a pitcher of the Jose Cuervo Gold Margaritas! After some dip and a pitcher of margaritas, I feel like I am home again and ready to spend a great vacation in my favorite town Kansas City."

  • "I'm looking forward to experiencing the first KC Restaurant Week this Friday through Sunday. My husband and I were in NYC for theirs last January and were thinking about a Chicago visit but opted to check out what KC has to offer. Surely can't go wrong with The American Restaurant, M & S Grill, Pierpont's and Grand Street Cafe reservations. And a portion goes to a good cause! They all get 5 stars for participating!! "

Best Chai in Kansas City

  • "Balsano's is an intriguing, adorable coffee shop tucked in the folds of the plaza.

    They serve the simple pleasures in life: peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, and omelets. More importantly, they have the BEST CHAI. Your order is taken at a table and the drink is brought to you in a mug. My chai was smooth and sweet and perfect.

    Our barista/waitress had a peculiar niceness to her. She was very polite and efficient; simply lacking an abundance of enthusiasm.

    My only problem with this cafe is that the drinks are made far behind the counter way out of the customer's eye sight. Thankfully the drink was delicious, or this would have been a huge problem.

    Balsano's is a perfect, quiet get away spot or the ideal location for a romantic date."

Best value and the best all- around restaurant

  • "Lidia's Kansas City is now, and has been the best value and the best all- around restaurant in town since opening its doors some 12 years ago. We have NEVER had a bad meal, the service is ALWAYS professional and helpful, and the cost is always less than you would expect! When we want a great meal at a reasonable price, we always end up here, because we know everything is fresh and pleasing to the [alate."
