Family Traveler

Looking for a family adventure that will appease everyone in your tribe? We’ve got plenty to keep the whole gang busy. Check out these tips for a memorable, family-friendly escape to Kansas City.

Your Personality Playlist

Union Station Holiday1. Let the kids be a scientist for a day at Science City in Union Station. The hands-on exhibits will have them laughing and learning. While there, be sure to check out Union Station's newest traveling exhibit, Dialog in the Dark. This innovative exhibit lets you experience first-hand what it's like to be blind. (November 14-March 29)

Kansas City Zoo2. The Kansas City Zoo features more than 1,000 animals in their natural habitats, including a 95-acre African exhibit. Don't forget to take notice of the zoo's revamped, visitor-friendly front entrance and the new North American River Otter exhibit just inside.

T REX3. Treat the tykes to a fun family dinner. You just might be surprised how many family-centric restaurants there are in KC. Try the creative Crayola Café at Crown Center or the world’s first T-Rex Café at the Legends at Village West. There, you can dine among colossal dinosaurs and even dig for fossils.

Toy and Miniature Museum_003_AA.jpg4. The young and the young-at-heart love exploring the 33 rooms of treasures at the Toy & Miniature Museum. The 1911 mansion is filled with antique toys, dollhouses, marbles and scale miniatures dating from the mid-1800s to the present. The museum's latest exhibit, Pieced with Love, showcases rare dolls from the Victorian age.

CoCo Key5. For wet and wild water fun year-round head to the new CoCo Key Water Resort, Missouri's largest indoor waterpark. No matter the season, it's always sunny and 84 degrees inside.  The 55,000-square-foot park includes two spas, an adventure river, lily pad games, a 'dip-in' movie theater and (of course) four twisting and turning slides.

coterie theatre6. A must for families is Crown Center's Coterie Theatre, now in its 30th anniversary season. Time magazine named the venue one of the top five theaters in America for young audiences. On tap for this winter: the new "all-ages" musical Seussical, and the American theater classic Our Town.
