Kansas City....In the middle of it all!

10/03/2008
Brieanna R. - Olathe, KS

I love Kansas City. City of fountains, smack dab in the middle of the country, great cost of living and the midwest people are as friendly as it gets! I have lived here all my life and would never move away.

My family is here...and most of all my daughter loves it. We love the fall season. Leaves changing, weather cooling down. Pumpkin Patches is a tradition in our family and the attached photo shows my daughter finding the perfect pumpkin for our home.

I love so much about Kansas City, but my FAVORITE part of the city is the unique and incredible grafitti!!! I can sit and stare at any one of the murals throughout downtown and always see something new each time. The incredible colors and characters, coupled with the artists imagination make a GREAT addition to KC!!!!

Royals Heat

10/06/2008
Heather D. - Omaha, NE

My family and I spent a very hot summer day in Kansas City watching the Royals. The sports complex is my families favorite place to spend a day--rooting for the Chiefs or the Royals. There is no better place to share a day with children and the summer heat makes for great hairdo's.

We love Kansas City

Gordon R. - Prairie Village, KS

There are many reason to love KC but we love it because it's a beautiful and easy place to raise our family. And its only getting better! My kids love the new downtown (finally something to do downtown) The Sprint Center is a wonderful new attraction to KC (and the Police show my kids loved would not have been the same in Kemper) With Fall on the horizon, cooler weather, leaves turning it all is a reminder of what a spectacular place we live in. (Not to mention that residents of KC and the midwest are really what makes KC what it is)

The image attached is of my daughter Katie at the Sprint Center.
cheers to you.

THE GREATEST PLACE TO LIVE

10/07/2008
KERRI J. - CALIFORNIA, MO

I grew up in KC and lived there for 20 years. With the Plaza and Westport, KC Chiefs and KC Royals and back then the KC Comets there was no where quite like KC. I remember going to UMKC to see "Othello" and going to the Renessance Festival. I remember going to eat at 3 of our favorite places that I don't think are around anymore: Joe's Barn, Mom's Chuckwagon and Stephenson's Apple Orchard.

We enjoyed going to the free entertainment at Westport and the Plaza and then spending summer evenings at Starlight Theatre. On Saturdays as a little kid we would go to the zoo but my favorite thing to do was go to the Nelson Art Gallery. Even though I live in a small town 2 hours away, my heart will always belong to Kansas City.

KC is the Place to Be

10/13/2008
Kellie R. - Greenwood, MO

Kansas City is a spectacular city to live in or visit anytime of the year, but most certainly during the Fall. There are hundreds of family-friendly things to do and see, events to experience, and activities to become involved in.

We have sensational theater events to attend from the small-scale Coterie Theatre where you feel one with the actors, to dramatic Broadway productions such as the Lion King. Check out the music! Attend a moving Kansas City Symphony event or rock-out with a big-name performing artist that comes to town.

Kansas City can boast of its many museums that are low cost or free and appeal to individuals of all ages such as the Liberty Memorial World War I Museum and Truman Presidential Library.

Sprinkled throughout the Fall are festivals that feature craftsman, entertainment, carnival rides and jammed-packed Midwest fun. Move out into the surrounding countryside and you'll find pumpkin patches, antique shops, historical and outdoor adventures, and some of the best wineries in the Nation. Check out Bristle Ridge Winery near Knob Noster, Missouri...a personal favorite! Visit the lush gardens throughout Kansas City, such as the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and Powell Gardens, a 640-acre garden that truly is a Road Trip for Your Soul.

Whether you're downtown, in the suburbs or in a quaint little restaurant in a neighboring town, you can indulge in delicious meals that range from our world-famous BBQ, hearty Midwest comfort food or fare that leans toward the gourmet...created from the fresh harvest of the local farms. KC is the place to be for a few days, a Season or a lifetime.

What the Harrs Love about KC

10/14/2008
Rachel H. - Bentonville, AR

Last Christmas, my husband and I and our two little guys ages 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 drove to Kansas City on a whim. Luckily, we were able to get a great rate at the Crowne Plaza where we spent much of our time holed up chowing room service, playing Candyland, and swimming in the indoor / outdoor pool. Of course when we did leave the room, we were all mystified by the sights and smells at the Crown Center--the music box and train store, the candy shop, and the festivities around the ice rink were all big hits. While the blanket of snow covering everything made the lights especially charming, it was so nice to have the Link to use when we needed to stay out of the elements.

On Sunday, we made the trek all the way across the Link through the old depot to Lydia's for Sunday brunch. The food was deklicious and the cozy atmosphere was even better! We plan on repeating the trip this year in the fall so we can enjoy the beautiful colors of the changing leaves and catch the Farmer's Market in full swing. The attached picture is of my son Fischer at Lydia's. He was absolutely thrilled by that tiny piece of tiramisu.

Love KC

10/17/2008
annette y. - marceline, MO

Hi, I am a single mother of 2 teenage boys and I have been taking my boys to the KC Royals game, at least one a year for the last 10yrs. We love going to the Plaza and watching the weddings in the park and watching the horse drawn carriages. We live in a rural area and there is just so much we miss living in the middle of no where. KC is a beautiful city and it’s worth the 2hr drive.

Birthday Party at Deanna Rose Farmstead

10/17/2008
Layne F. - Overland Park, KS

We love to visit the Deanna Rose Farmstead. Braden's 7th birthday party caught us ringing the cow bells outside the dairy barn and panning for gold with friends. It was a blast!

We love to take walks through the Plaza on a crisp fall night. The smells of all the wonderful restaurants fill the air, and there are always plenty of local artist on the corners sharing their music. Then there are the fountains. You can just sit and watch the water dance for hours.

Autumn Splendor in Antioch Park

10/23/2008
Margaret D. - Hutchinson, KS

We enjoy coming to the Kansas City area about 5 times a year for the New Theater Dinner Theater. This is our romantic get away time and we always spend 2 or 3 days in K.C. One of our favorite areas to visit is the small, almost hidden little park called Antioch Park. We found it by accident many years ago, and have enjoyed it many times. We enjoy the different seasons there and fall is especially beautiful. We always leave with many, many memory pictures of God's beauty in this little paradise. It's our little retreat from the busyness of the world and we treasure it.

I would like to send my three photos by email as they are not loading properly here. What is the correct email to get them to you for this entry. Thanks. Margaret D.

Great KC Parks

10/27/2008
Cate J. - Prairie Village, KS

I love Kansas City because it has become quite a hotspot for what our family all loves, Cyclocross cycling. In 2007, for the first time Kansas City became the host of the Cyclocross National Championship. This is a type of cycling which takes place in parks and we couldn't do it here if KC wasn't receptive to it and didn't have a wonderful parks system (throughout all of the counties).

This photo was taken of my husband, Brendon, and our son, Rawson, as he participated in his first Kid Race on October 19, 2008 at Wyandotte County Park (which was also the host of the championship). As you can see by the photo, it was well attended and everyone enjoyed seeing the next generation embrace this fun and healthy activity.

A Day at the Zoo

10/28/2008
Paige L. - Kansas City, MO

With how tight money is this year, its been hard getting out with the family. I was so happy to find out that the KC Zoo was offering free admission this month and next for KC residents.
We loaded up the car and headed out for a chilly but nice day at the Zoo. My son who is now five just LOVED it, it was his first visit to a Zoo and I hope to get to take him again. Here we have a shot that I was lucky to get of one of the small monkeys sucking his thumb, and two of my son enjoying the Zoo, one coming down the slide at the discovery barn and the other watching the ducks in one of the aviaries

Always something to do

10/28/2008
Heather G. - Overland Park, KS

I love Kansas City because wherever I go, there is always something unique to look at whether it’s the art both inside and out of our many museums like the Nelson, Kemper and Nerman, or the extra touches in the design and architecture of attractions such as Lucky Strike or just the people enjoying our wonderful city such as girls running through the Crown Center fountain in their beautiful party dresses.

Anyday is a good day for the KC Zoo

10/28/2008
Linda E. - Chesterfield, MO

We met in Kansas City from St. Louis and Dallas to spend a long weekend together. With an energetic four year old grandson the Kansas City Zoo was the perfect choice. Even though it was a little on the chilly side we couldn't have had a better day. The Fall colors were beautiful and there are several indoor areas to spend time and warm up. Our grandson and the chimp sat contently observing each other separated only by glass.

Hot Cocoa and Water Fire

10/28/2008
Micki M. - overland park, KS

Being new to the KC area I'm so captivated by the spirit and beauty of the city. Especially at night time events such as the WaterFire walk along Brush Creek. Although many kids were enjoying the hot chocolate by the bon fires on the creek, my husband and I enjoyed a night without our kids. It was so beautiful and relaxing walking along the waterfire while still in the midst of the city lights. I must not forget to mention Houston's, one of my favorite restaurants, was serving their best food and drinks! I love this city!

Sharon P. - Olathe, KS

The temperature has cooled, but the sun is shining. A perfect day to explore the natural side of Kansas City. Ernie Miller Nature Center offers trails of varying length & difficulty and a good chance to see a few deer. They also have a learning center that is a great source of information and education for young kids and adults.

I spent the most beautiful fall day at Loose Park. There were dozens of Canadian geese and loons in the lake. This loon just splashed around in the water like a little kid. It was fun to just watch him.

Cheri J. - Olathe, KS

Visiting the KC Pumpkin Patch has become one of our favorite Fall traditions. This year we took our 2 1/2 year old and our 8 month old along with a couple of friends. We had a great time! Not only is there a ton of pumpkins to choose from, but there is yummy food, a small animal farm/petting zoo, a tricycle track, playground area and much more! It's a great way to spend time together as a family.

The World War I Museum and Tower are awesome! You can see a lot of Kansas City from the top of the tower. Union Station was a lot of fun with lots of stuff to do. They had a great Christmas display. The Kansas City Chief's are a great team & organization. They had a special Veteran's Day Ceremony last Veteran's Day there.

10/30/2008
Cindy E. - Olathe, KS

I love KC for the many wonderful activities and events the area has for children and their families. As these pictures show, the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is our favorite spot to just go to relax and unwind and appreciate the beautiful changes that each season brings.

Their events such as the Kids Art in the Park or the Luminary Walk are definitely must sees! There are so many wonderful Kids' activities in the area...the Deanna Rose Farm, the KC Zoo, Wonderscope, Science City, Kaleidoscope...the list could go on and on. I also love being able to introduce my children to the culture and art around the city at the many events that are offered...the Plaza Art Fair, Ballet in the Park, hearing the KC symphony play at the Celebration at the Station and Pops at the Park. Thank you Kansas City for the many ways you reach out to enrich our children's lives!!

Pumpkin Patches!!

10/30/2008
Jason E. - Olathe, KS

Without a doubt, I love fall in KC for the abundance of wonderful pumpkin patches available. We love to try out a new one each year as well as revisit an old favorite! This year we played at the Deanna Rose Farmstead Pumpkin Hollow and visited Johnson Farms.
Each provided hours of fun and entertainment for our family in a little bit different setting. The best part is that the fun didn’t end there! We got to take our pumpkins home with us to make in to jack o’ lanterns and roast pumpkin seeds as we talked about and relived our “fun on the farm”.

Home is where the heart is

10/31/2008
Joel B. - Alexandria, VA

My story can be summed up by one of many daily text messages - dubbed "morning messages" - I sent to my future wife, Hilary, during a work rotation lasting three months where she resided in a furnished apartment in Kansas City, Kansas during the summer of 2007. I wrote: "good morning love, I know you awoke feeling well, because today is the day your baby comes home! Home being where the heart is in this case. I love you, darlin'. I can not wait to see your pretty face and hold you in my arms". Although I lived all my life in Maryland, home for these three months was in her apartment off of Oak street near the Country Club Plaza. I flew out to see her every chance I could, about every other week, on credit; and would do it all over again! We grew so much as a couple during this time, and Kansas was the perfect back drop for it. Whether it was a simple walk in one of your many fine parks, like Jacob Loose Memorial Park, an evening at a Royals game, or a world-class meal at a great restaurant, such as Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue, the mood was set, it seemed there was no wrong; and when you're only visiting for a few days at a time, it was critical to make the most out of the time we had together. We're still together today, and strong going on to two years, and owe a lot of that to your city for creating an environment that was pleasurable. We grew and learned so much in the short bit of time we were there, making Kansas City a very special place for us; a place Hilary and I look forward to revisiting and reliving the good memories shared from those tough three months apart.

My husband and I were blessed to spend 3 years in Kansas City while he attended Physical Therapy school at Rockhurst University. After a year there, we welcomed our son, Noah. We quickly developed a love for Kansas City and found our own favorite places that we frequented. One of our favorites? Arthur Bryant's, of course! We also loved Waldo Pizza, which was close to our apartment in the Plaza. We're back in Oklahoma now, but Kansas City holds such a special place in our hearts.

My favorite place is the City Market, it changes with the season. When I have friends in from other parts of the country, they always want to go to the market. This is a picture that my 16 yr old, took of my grandaughter and a friend's son that was in KC visiting and they were amazed how big the building were, the clouds were really low, so it looked like they reached to the heavens.

Fun & Food

11/11/2008
Jon H. - Lincoln, NE

This past spring we made a trip to St. Louis to visit friends. On the way back to Nebraska my girls (8 & 10) we napping in the back seat of the car as we pulled in KC. When they woke up we were parked in front of the Great Wolfe Lodge. They rubbed their eyes and then it dawned on them where we were. It was like Christmas morning for them. Holy cow were they excited. We spent two days playing in the water and enjoying every night at the mall or the Plaza. It was a great family vacation. Thanks Kansas City!!!
