Looking for a different destination to brighten your next trip to Kansas City? Zona Rosa just may be the answer. Nestled within upscale neighborhoods in Kansas City north, the area’s unique entertainment and shopping district is located at the northwest corner of 1-29 and Barry Road, just minutes from KCI airport and downtown Kansas City. Since opening in May 2004, the new urban retail environment has welcomed thousands of visitors to its "city within a city" atmosphere, offering shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as office and residential space.

What makes Zona Rosa so special? The layout, for one. The streets of the property are reminiscent of downtowns of the past, with individual storefronts evoking a sort of village-feel. Visitors will find familiarity in the intentional differing architectural design of each shop, not to mention the street-side metered parking. Another uniqueness of the Steiner development is the stock it takes in the community; one example is that all the proceeds from the parking meters are donated to local charities. In lieu of the meters, ample free parking is available throughout the property in covered garages and surface lots.

Zona Rosa is home to many well-known merchants, including Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, New York & Company, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lane Bryant, Children’s Place, Build A Bear, and Dillard's, just to name a few. Appetites will be satisfied with the many dining options including Bravo! Italian Cucina, Buffalo Wild Wings, Mimi’s Café, Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy, Hereford House, Bar Louie, and Swagat Fine Indian Cuisine.

Amid the retail space you’ll find grassy areas with fountains and park benches just right for relaxing, and wide sidewalks meant for strolling. It will take you back to a time when life moved a bit slower, and things seemed simpler. So pay a visit this year to Zona Rosa and embrace the spirit of our old-fashioned charm. We’re certain you’ll experience something different, yet familiar.

I have been to Zona Rosa multiple times and have always parked on the street and always thought the metered were for donations to charities. Read a meter closely. I was blown away to get a ticket for my 5 minute visit to one store. I cannot image that this can generate enough money to warrent all the poor feedback.

Love going here. I don't understand all the complaints about parking when there is free parking all around it. I very rarely use the metered spots since free parking is so abundant. Can't wait for all the free live entertainment on Thursdays thru Saturdays in the summer.

Parking is a sham

The "Parking Violation" from Zona Rosa are ridiculous. I was in a line of 5 cars in metered parking spots, that were all expired, for only 10 minutes and when i came back my car was the only one that had a parking ticket on it. I would give 0 stars if i could.

I, too, have received a "Parking Violation" from Zona Rosa after parking at a meter late at night to go see comedy at The Improv. It is completely ignorant that they have capped the meters at 1 hour when most people dining and visiting the comedy club will be in the establishment, spending money for more than one hour. I don't plan to return to Zona Rosa until they have changed the policy. There are plenty of other places I can spend my money in Kansas City.

Parking is a Pain

The streets are too narrow and parking is terrible
The Improv Theater is the only reason left to go there

parking rip-off

Not only do the parking meters create a negative image in a rather upscale shopping area, but the one hour limit makes shopping or dining impossible. It's like it is designed to limit your time to one hour or force you into a ticket. Also, the meters don't give credit for each quarter. Why do the merchants put up with this?

Parking Tickets at Zona Rosa

I think it is sad that Zona Rosa is taking advantage of the parking situation in the shopping area by ticketing patrons. I understand the proceeds of those tickets are going to good use, however, it is a big inconvenience to use a parking meter. I think that takes away from all the shopping facility has to offer.

Summer's in Kansas City

I love summer in Kansas City. The city is so alive with culture, fun, and free entertainment. First Friday's is not only fun but it provides a glimpse into the outstanding artists in our city. My son and I love to go to Fritz's for dinner, then he will play in the Crown Center fountain, and we end the evening with Free Friday Night Flick. (Enjoying a bag of Topsy's popcorn.)
We will often go to the pavillion at Zona Rosa and listen to the music or head over to Penguin Park to climb atop an Elephant.

This is one of the most amazng places in the world to live. I am proud to call it home.
