Her Kansas City

The Perfect Girls' Getaway

You’ve explored Kansas City with the family and have hopefully escaped for a romantic weekend with your significant other. So, now it’s time to do Kansas City with the girls and experience the softer, sassier side of this sexy metropolitan city.

AMC Mainstreet TheatreFriday

Check out the latest chick flick with a suite at the AMC Mainstreet Theatre in the Kansas City Power & Light District.

The historic theatre dates to the gilded and glamorous 1920s, but with the latest in technology from locally owned AMC, dinner, drinks and a cute waiter set the bar for the weekend ahead.

When the movie is over, explore the happenings in the Power & Light District while enjoying a gelato at Bice Bistro, Oysters Rockefeller at Bristol Seafood Grill or a refreshing “gutterball” cocktail at Lucky Strike Lanes. Bristol Seafood Grill

Classy chics like you and your friends should spend the weekend in one of KC’s classic boutique hotels.

Consider the Hotel Phillips Downtown, the recently renovated Raphael Hotel or unpretentious hospitality at the Southmoreland on the Plaza.

Saturday

Briarcliff VillageStart the day at the farmers market at The City Market, the most energizing spot in Kansas City on weekend mornings. Depending on the season, you and your friends may enjoy a cooking lesson or a craft demonstration, a salute to tomatoes or a used book sale. Or maybe, pick up a gorgeous potted plant as a weekend souvenir.

For more serious souvenirs, however, check out the possibilities in the River Market Antique Mall. The nooks and crannies of four floors in this old warehouse will keep your friends intrigued for hours. Of course, you and your friends have far greater depth than shopping as your sole source of stimulation, but just in case, you’ll be delighted with the independently-owned shops in Brookside, in the Crossroads Art District and just north of the river in the Briarcliff Village.

Finish out the day with live theatre, that is, if your girlfriends can come to a consensus. Outdoor and dinner theatre, intimate performance venues, classic and historic settings. We’ve got it all.

Nelson Atkins Museum_051_LA.jpgSunday

For a leisurely Sunday brunch, head to the Country Club Plaza. The Classic Cup, Grand Street Café and Café Europa offer light, healthy choices in softer settings

You can’t leave Kansas City without visiting The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. But let’s do it up right. Take a class at the Ford Learning Center or book a private tour with your own docent.

And then check your calendars, set a date, and let’s do it all again.
