Kansas City Heart of America Tours explores Kansas City's true American story by bus or on foot. Originally occupied by the Kaw and Missouri Indian Tribes, Kansas City was a campsite for Lewis and Clark on their expedition to investigate westward expansion of the United States. From the underground railroad and the beginning of the Civil War, to the railroad, livestock exchange, the mafia, segregation, Harry S. Truman, and the Civil Rights Movement, the story of Kansas City is America's complete history in a nutshell.
The tour also showcases the exclusive Country Club Plaza, a replication of Seville Spain and the first retail shopping district accessible by automobile in the nation.Visitors also experience Jim Crow segregation first hand through the historic 18th and Vine Jazz, Baseball and Bar-B-Q District made famous by Satchel Paige, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Julia Lee, Josh Gibson, Jesse Owens, Joe Louis, Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Ben Webster, and Jackie Robinson.
