Set on 915 acres of lush, rolling hills and windswept meadows, Powell Gardens -- Kansas City's botanical garden -- offers breathtaking display gardens, interesting architecture, a nature trail and a year-round calendar of special events and classes for the entire family.
Garden features include an Island Garden, Perennial Garden, a Rock and Waterfall Garden, a Wildflower Meadow, an indoor conservatory, ever-changing Terrace Gardens and native plantings.
Besides being a gardening enthusiast's dream, Powell Gardens offers unique contemporary architecture. The Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel, designed by architect Fay Jones, offers a quiet place for reflection and inspiration. Jones, a native of Arkansas and student of the master Frank Lloyd Wright, is famous for his Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs.
In addition to the Chapel, he designed the Visitor Education Center and the Meadow Pavilion.
All structures blend with the serene and natural surroundings of the Gardens. The 18,000-square-foot Visitor Education Center houses Perennial Gifts gift shop, a café and classroom space, plus a glass-topped conservatory.

Powell Gardens is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. I might mention to take your camera along because that way you will be able to enjoy your visit long after you have actually been there. My wife and I have lived in Kansas City for over thirty years but have never been to Powell Gardens before. All I can say is if you haven't been there you have no idea what you are missing.
It was absolutely great...(c:

I have enjoyed Powell Gardens for years. I love the Woodland Garden, Island Garden, Living Wall and the conifer collection. I am looking forward to another Booms and Blooms and Buterfly Festival as well as the new events this year that are part of the opening celebration of the Heartland Harvest Garden. This garden surpasses all the rest. It is 12 acres of edible landscape and is dedicated to education kids and adults about where our food comes from. It is great now and a must-see for area gardeners. In coming years as the plantings fill out, it will become even more awesome.
