Friendly people always is a good place to start. We went at an off time, and the place was not crowded. Everyone greets toy with a smile on their face and are willing to help. So the place delivered, and so does the food. Ribs were meaty and tender, sandwiches were enormous. Going to the 18th and Vine area? Skip Bryant's and head to Gates.

Kansas City is the town for Barbecue and nobody serves it up better than Gates. The beef compares with any steak served in the Midwest and the ribs are world-famous. There is turkey and chicken available as well, and the best fries ever. Although Gates is "self service," staff circulate throughout the dining rooms constantly to ensure their guests' needs are met.
No trip to the Kansas City area is complete without a meal at Gates, and with 6 locations around the city, it will be easy for any visitor to satiate themselves.

The food was nothing special.My wife and I were there in aug. of 07. The staff was indifferent at best. We are going back to K.C. but not to Gate's.
