Gates Bar-B-Q is a Kansas City original. This family restaurant established in 1946, has grown from a single store front at 19th & Vine to a family of five up to date restaurants throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area; all struttin' the Gates Bar-B-Q unique red roof design and man in full tuxedo top hat, depicting our style.
Over 50 years of excellence, hard work and their family recipe has perpetuated the growth of their sauce line to a family of sauces, all with the distinct flavor found only in Gates Bar-B-Q products.
All their restaurants, sauce products and seasonings serve as a conduit between Gates and its customers' satisfaction. The connection of good food; fast, personalized service and an immediate greeting of "Hi, may I help you?" All act as their trademarks.

A visit to KC requires a visit to Gates. I grew up in KC and visit often and when I do I always try to sneak in a trip to Gates. Their meat is so tender and smokey and the sauce is bold and spicy. I'm salivating as I think about it!

The large beef sandwich is always thinly sliced, tender, slow-smoked and the same everytime. Very little sauce needed. The mutton breast and ribs are great also but the beef has been my favorite for over 40 years. They have a large variety of sauces although I usually I get the regular or spicy. The service is very fast and friendly. You may eat in comfortable surroundings.

My wife grew up in Kansas City, and we still visit from time to time. No trip to Kansas City would be complete without Gates Barbecue! They have a special taste that nobody else can duplicate. My wife always gets the roast beef; I love the smoked turkey. We almost always take some home with us, and you can't forget the home fries and the great Gates Barbecue sauce.

First visit to Gates, but made the trip to K.C. even better. Casual dining experience, staff was helpful, delicious Bar-B-Q. Can't wait to have Gates on my next visit to K.C.

When I think bbq, I think Gates. It's the only one I crave and the first place I can't wait to eat at when I get to K.C.!! I have been going here for over 20 years with my family. Only thing that could make them better is if they had a place in Omaha, NE. Thanks for many years of great bbq!!
