Cliff Drive, the first urban Scenic Byway in the State, has gone car-free on weekends. The drive twists and turns along the limestone cliffs high above the Missouri river through the wooded isles of one of Kansas City's oldest parks, Kessler Park. Originally built for Sunday rides in horse-and-buggy, Cliff Drive is now used by joggers, walkers, bicyclists and skaters. Car Free Weekends will run the third weekend of May through the last weekend of October. Gates will close every Friday at 2:00 pm and will not re-open to motorized vehicles until Monday at 8:00 am. This program provides a scenic, car free zone for pedestrian and bicycle oriented activities that will promote healthy lifestyles for all to enjoy.
