For Immediate Release: September 11, 2009

Contact: Alan Carr, 816-691-3829 or 816-786-0793

Several streets in the downtown area will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 13, for Stage 7 of the Tour of Missouri. Streets used for the race will be closed to traffic in both directions from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Riders will make seven laps on the 10.2-mile circuit, requiring streets to be closed until the conclusion of the race. Cross traffic will be permitted between race laps (approximately every 15 minutes) at police discretion. Click here to see the roads that are impacted.

Key streets impacted include Grand Boulevard, Main Street, Broadway/Penn Valley Drive/W Pennway, the I-35 ramps at W Pennway and 12th Street. Traffic around the Crown Center area will be heavily impacted by the race with the intersection of Pershing Road and Grand Boulevard closed from 4 a.m. to approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Drivers not attending the race are encouraged to choose an alternate route. Suggested alternate routes for north/south thru traffic are Gillham/Oak on the east and I-35 on the west side of the downtown. East/west thru traffic should use I-70 or I-670, Truman Road (expect delays at Grand) or 39th Street.

Fans heading downtown to watch the race are encouraged to arrive early to avoid street closures. Parking around the start/finish may fill up quickly. Crown Center parking will be limited due to the race route. The Union Station garage will be available to the public for a $5 flat fee, which can be applied to a ticket at the Union Station Ticketing Counter that day.

After approximately 1:30 p.m., access to Union Station and the Westin Crown Center will only be available via Main Street. Main Street will be closed to southbound thru traffic at 20th Street, and only vehicles wishing to access Union Station parking, the Westin Crown Center, the IRS buildings or other local traffic will be allowed.
