KANSAS CITY, Mo. — More than 15,000 students, teachers and judges will be in Kansas City attending the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, June 22-26. The outdoor Champions Plaza in front of Municipal Auditorium will close two downtown streets during the conference:
- 13th Street (between Wyandotte Street and Broadway Boulevard): closed 24 hours a day from Sunday, June 21, through Thursday, June 25.
- Central Street (between 12th and 14th streets): also closed 24 hours a day from Sunday, June 21, to Thursday, June 25.
In addition, several lanes around Bartle Hall and Barney Allis Plaza will be closed periodically during the conference for shuttle buses and the loading and unloading of supplies. Note that from June 21 to 25, the only entrance to the Municipal Auditorium parking garage will be on Wyandotte Street. Both of the garage’s exits onto Wyandotte and Central will remain open. In addition to the street closures for SkillsUSA, the 12th Street Bridge will remain closed due to road construction. For a list of alternate routes into downtown Kansas City, click here.

With an estimated economic impact of $15 million, the SkillsUSA conference is Kansas City's largest convention in 2009. The conference features the SkillsUSA Championships, where more than 5,000 gold medal winners from across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands compete for the national title in their particular field of study. The conference has taken place annually in Kansas City since 1994 and is booked here through the year 2014.
