Kansas City, Mo. - The Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association (KCCVA) took home four awards at the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International's (HSMAI) 51st Annual Adrian Awards competition in New York City. The Adrian Awards honor creative brilliance and best practices in hospitality, travel, and tourism-related marketing, and are one of the most prestigious and respected competitions in the travel and tourism industry.
The KCCVA won the following awards:
• Gold - Kansas City in Cooking Light magazine (Feature PR Placement Category)
• Silver - VisitKC.com e-News (Leisure Email Series Category)
• Silver - PR Campaign/Convention Trade Media (Trade Marketing Program Category)
• Bronze - KCCVA Online Media Room (Online Press Room Category)
"Out of 1,300 entries submitted this year from 45 countries, four from the KCCVA were judged as among the best in the industry by expert travel marketing professionals," said Rick Hughes, president of the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association. "We placed alongside some of the world's most elite destinations, proving that Kansas City's PR and e-marketing campaigns are competitive in attracting visitors and media on an international level. We are very proud of our communications team."
The KCCVA won the Gold Award for Feature Placement in a Consumer Magazine for a five-page article in Cooking Light magazine. In the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), Destinations or Offices of Tourism division, those that placed alongside the KCCVA for the Gold Award are the Pennsylvania Tourism Office, WaterColor Inn & Resort and Visit Florida.
The KCCVA set out to change meeting planners' perceptions of the city by targeting convention trade publications with a unique press kit about Kansas City's new downtown. This effort earned a Silver Award in the Trade Marketing Program category. The KCCVA was the sole CVB division winner in this category.
VisitKC.com's e-News won a Silver Award in the Email Series category. The e-newsletter promotes Kansas City as favorable leisure destination to 55,000 subscribers each month, generating new travel within a two-week to one-month window following distribution. The Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB was the only other CVB division winner in this category, also receiving a Silver Award.
Finally, the KCCVA launched a new media room on VisitKC.com in 2007 that won the KCCVA a Bronze Award in the Online Press Room category. The site provides the news media with an easy-to-use, dynamic media room that features downloadable photos, story ideas, news releases, itineraries and information about what's new. The KCCVA worked with Software Management Inc. to build the customized media room. Panama City Beach was the only other CVB division winner in this category, receiving a Silver Award.
