HIGHLIGHTS:
- In addition to the numerous exhibitions the museum presents each year, the Nerman displays the Oppenheimer Collection, the core of the museum's permanent collection. This collection includes monumental sculptures sited across the campus grounds, as well as major paintings, photographs, works on paper, and ceramics. New works are acquired each year and changing exhibits within the Permanent Collection Galleries allow visitors to view differing aspects of the renowned collection.
- The museum offers tours, lectures, visiting artists' presentations, films, activities for families and art classes for children. Check the Web site calendar for current programming.
- The Nerman Museum Store features unique contemporary gifts, jewelry, art toys and contemporary living items. The store also houses one of the largest contemporary art book selections in the region and sells works of art by local, national and international artists.

HISTORY: In 2003, contemporary art collectors Jerry and Margaret Nerman, pledged $1.5 million (museum naming opportunity) to assist in funding the construction of a contemporary art museum on the campus of JCCC.
The construction of the approximately $15 million Nerman Museum was realized through Johnson County Community College funding, with support from the Nerman Family, the M.R. & Evelyn Hudson Foundation, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Marti and Tony Oppenheimer, Richard I. and Jeanne S. Galamba, Barton P. and Mary D. Cohen, Dean E. Thompson, Irma Starr, Carl and Lee McCaffree, Jim and Mary Tearney and Joseph and Margery Lichtor.
The elegant, minimalist building, which opened to the public in October of 2007, was designed by architect Kyu Sung Woo and is clad in Kansas limestone. Throughout the museum's two levels are nine expansive galleries for temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection. Additionally, the museum houses the 200 seat Hudson Auditorium, Café Tempo, two classrooms, a Museum Store, a New Media Gallery, and art storage and preparation spaces. The museum boasts two lobbies including the impressive Cantilever Entrance, which features a dazzling 60,000 white LED installation by artist Leo Villareal, and the glass and metal Atrium Lobby. |

| HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES: Contemporary Creations classes for children ages 8 to 11 combine interactive tours with studio projects.
