HISTORY: Founded by Kansas City visionaries Lamar Hunt and Jack Steadman of Hunt Midwest Enterprises, Inc., Worlds of Fun opened in 1973 themed around the Jules Verne adventure novel, Around the World in 80 Days. The park debuted to a warm welcome, giving its 100 millionth ride only six years later. In 1982, Hunt Midwest introduced the adjacent Oceans of Fun, one of the Midwest's largest tropically themed waterparks.
Cedar Fair, L.P., now Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, purchased both parks in 1995, and continues to make improvements to the destination resort each year. Notable additions include four roller coasters, numerous thrill rides and water attractions, Camp Snoopy and the Worlds of Fun Village resort. In 2006, Cedar Fair unveiled the largest capital expenditure on a single ride in park history-the Patriot.
