Tour of Missouri
Tour of Missouri rolls into Kansas City on Monday, September 8. Tour of Missouri, now in its second year, is a professional cycling race across the Show-Me State.
Cyclists from more than 20 countries, representing 15 of the world’s top teams, will compete while racing more than 600 miles through the cities and rolling hills of the Show-Me State.
Tour of Missouri - Stage One
The Kansas City metro will host the Tour of Missouri’s first stage on Sept. 8, beginning in new host city, St. Joseph, and concluding with a circuit race at the Country Club Plaza. Cyclists will come into Kansas City from Parkville on Highway 9, crossing over the Burlington Bridge into downtown. They’ll take Grand Boulevard, then merge onto Main Street to the Country Club Plaza. Cyclists will then take Ward Parkway, loop around the Meyer Circle Fountain at Meyer Boulevard and head back to the Plaza. Learn More.
Country Club Plaza Women's Pro Am Criterium
As part of this year's Tour of Missouri, Kansas City will be among the few cities in the nation to host some of the world’s top women cyclists. The inaugural Country Club Plaza Women's Pro Am Criterium is an Olympic-level invitational cycling race featuring a field of professional women cyclists, including national champions, world champions and Olympians competing for a $7,500 cash purse. Below is a list of events planned in the Kansas City metro area for Tour of Missouri.
Saturday, Sept. 6
| 7 p.m. | Men's Gala and Team Presentation, Hyatt Regency Crown Center. Men’s teams will be introduced and items will be auctioned for charity. Open to the public. Tickets are $250. |
Sunday, Sept. 7
| 8 a.m. | Tour of Missouri Charity Ride: Tour of Champions. Ride along men's Stage One route. Starting on the Plaza and riding to Downtown (14 miles), Parkville (36 miles) and Westin (70 miles) and back to the Plaza. Benefiting WIN KC and the Dream Factory. Entrance is $30. Open to the public. Sign up at www.sportkc.org or on the morning of the ride at ReVerse restaurant. Free beer after the ride provided by Boulevard Beer. |
| 7 p.m. | Women's Team Happy Hour Party, Embassy Suites Kansas City Plaza. Women’s teams will be introduced and items will be auctioned off for charity. Invitation only. |
Monday, Sept. 8
| Noon | Health Expo opens on the Country Club Plaza. The expo will include food, beverages and music as well as exhibitors, vendors, children’s activities, bike demonstrations and free bike parking. |
| Noon | Bike Helmet Give Away. Stop by the Expo anytime and get a free kids bike helmet. |
| 12:30 p.m. | Start of Tour of Missouri’s Men’s Stage One in St. Joseph, shown live on the Plaza on big screen TV’s. |
| 1 p.m. | Start of the Country Club Plaza Women's Pro Am Criterium. The top women cyclists from around the country will race a 1km circuit around the Plaza, speeding right through the Expo area and around your favorite shops. At stake is a $7500 purse and the winner’s jersey It’s NASCAR on bikes. The race will run for approximately an hour. |
| 3:30 p.m. | Finish of Tour of Missouri’s Men’s Stage One on the Country Club Plaza. The Men will ride several circuits around the Plaza before sprinting to the finish line. The time listed is approximate. |
| 5 p.m. | Men and Women's Awards Ceremony on the Country Club Plaza. Time listed is approximate. |
| 5:30 p.m. | Post Race Party on the Plaza. When the races are over, the party keeps going. Music, food and fun will continue long after the athletes have done their jobs for the day. |
