The Oppenstein Brothers Memorial Park in Kansas City, Mo., now offers passers-by more than a relaxing walk through a grassy knoll and hearty trees. From artist Laura DeAngelis with Davison Architecture + Urban Design, and with the help of astronomy historian James E. Morrison, comes the Star Disk, a public art sculpture inspired by the ancient anaphoric clock that makes learning about science and astronomy much more fun. Park visitors can press a button to reveal the correct date and time; from there, the Star Disk displays the exact position of more than 450 stars directly overhead. With 50 drawings etched on the clock’s surface, you can find your favorite constellation, and at night it’s illuminated with LED lights.
