What are Your Favorite Moments in Royals Baseball History?
This year the Kansas City Royals are celebrating their 40th Anniversary Season. The Royals entered the Major Leagues as an expansion franchise in 1969. There have been many great moments in Royals baseball history.
Here are a few of our favorites:
- April 8, 1969 – the Royals defeat the Minnesota Twins in their inaugural game.
- 1973 – the "powder blue" uniforms are introduced.
- July 24, 1983 – the controversial "Pine Tar Incident" as George Brett connects on a two-run home run against Yankee reliever Rich "Goose" Gossage.
- October 27, 1985 – the Royals win Game 7 of the World Series – also known as the "I-70 Showdown Series" – defeating the St. Louis Cardinals.
- June 5, 1989 – Bo Jackson runs down a line drive and then proceeds to run up the side of the left field wall, turns and fires a strike to home plate throwing out the Seattle Mariner's Harold Reynolds.
- 1990 – George Brett wins his third and final batting title.
- April 10, 2009 – the Kansas City Royals unveil a renovated Kauffman Stadium.
